Stings real name is Gordon Matthew Sumner. He was born on October 2, 1951, in the port city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the major industrial center in Northern England. His father, Ernest Matthew Sumner, for a long time worked as a fitter in a local engineering firm and later owned a small dairy. His mother Audrey worked as a hairdresser and an auxiliary nurse.
At the general background of decline and fall of the rock music in the late 1970s, when a lot of acknowledged leaders dropped out of a race or fizzled into oblivion, and the new ones were only emerging, the new Police trio was a pleasant surprise for music fans.
The story of how he acquired the name Sting is quite interesting, because there are so many variations of it. Even Sting cant seem to remember how the name actually came about.
When reviewing Stings art, it is impossible to neglect his work in cinema. To this day, he has acted in over ten movies and scored soundtracks to over 40 other films, including 48 Hrs, Demolition Man, The Professional, Leaving Las Vegas, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Emperors New Groove and many others.
Sting has various homes dotted around the world, England, Italy and USA. Contrary to existing rumors, he does not own a castle in England, but he does own a very large manor house originally built in the 16 century, where he spends most of his spare time with his family: his wife and six children of two marriages. Stings second spouse is the movie producer Trudie Styler. They married on August 20, 1992 at Camden Town Registry Office (private ceremony), followed by a church blessing at a local church near their home Lake House two days later.
